Starting a New Project – Expat Coffee Club

I enjoy writing a blog. Although it’s a lot of work to keep up with everything, and even more mental energy to lay things out in a nice way with pictures, I find it gives me a real sense of purpose. Even if my week is a bit boring or mundane, it thrills me to see readers from all over the world who are interested in what’s up with me.

I have traveled to many different types of places. This picture is from my time doing research in Uganda – February 2014.

I was approached recently by a few ladies from around the world. We have spoken for the last few months, and have agreed to start a new project called the “Expat Coffee Club“. I will continue to write in my own blog (this one) but will also be contributing articles to this group blog as well. It will give me the opportunity to compare and contrast my experiences to those of other women working in various countries.

I am very excited to work on this new project. I think we will all learn a lot from other women who are taking on a sort of “nomadic” lifestyle that doesn’t always fit everyone’s idea of what a life should look like. Cultural expectation can be a tricky thing, but I hope this blog can give me a venue for sorting out some of those ideas.

Moving is a lot of work, but it the end it’s all about packing your bags and leaving everything else behind to start a new adventure.

I will continue to write on this blog (hopefully weekly) and will also post links to my blogs from Expat Coffee Club on here, so you can read those as well.  You also may be interested in subscribing to get updates from that blog too (on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter – whichever platform is best for you).

Thank you for joining me on this exciting new journey to learn more about myself and the world around me 🙂  To read my first blog post on this project – click on the link below:

Being a World Traveler

About Amanda

Hi, I’m Amanda! Originally from Ottawa, Canada, I am currently living with my partner (Steve) in Sucre, Bolivia for the next year. I work in the unique space between industrial design and international development – but what does that even mean? I’m passionate about working WITH marginalized communities in a way that utilizes design to improve the lives of different types of people around the world. I have worked, studied, traveled, and researched on every continent (except Antarctica), and most recently I lived in Ghana, Bangladesh and Nepal. I love exploring new cultures and learning more about myself along the way.
